To work for SpeakWrite, you will need to have the following versions of the listed hardware, software and other items installed on your computer and be thoroughly familiar with the operation of them.

Hardware:

Personal Computer (PC) with at least 1 GB of RAM.
Sound card and earphones to listen to the dictation.
Printer - (An inkjet or laser printer, properly set and cabled to work with your computer.)
Foot Pedal - After you have successfully completed training, you will need to order a foot pedal to operate the playback of dictated material.
(Note: If you have an older computer and it does not have a USB port, you may have to purchase a USB card for your computer so that you can plug your foot pedal into a USB port.)

Software:

Operating System Software - Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7
Word Processing Software - Microsoft Word 2003 or newer
(Microsoft Works is not the same as Microsoft Word. The ability to save a file as Microsoft Word is not the same as having Microsoft Word. Microsoft Windows is not the same as Microsoft Word. You must have the above-noted version of Windows and the above-noted version of Word. Windows and Word are two different things.)
Internet Browser software - Microsoft Internet Explorer v8.0+ (Free download from the internet. Do not use Netscape or Firefox.)
Adobe Acrobat Reader version v8.0 - Software which allows you to view and print fax documents submitted for typing. (Free download from the internet.)
Windows Media Player v10, 11 or 12 (Free download from the internet.)

Other:

Internet Connection - The highest connection speed available in your area. (DSL is available in most areas now and you should acquire and use this if at all possible - it will greatly enhance your speed and your ability to earn more. AOL Internet service frequently causes problems with or is incompatible with our software. If you have AOL you may use it for the test jobs if it causes no problems. After you are under contract with us or if AOL causes problems during the test jobs, you will need to change ISP's if you wish to proceed.)
